The London Experience

Post-16 students assisted with the application bid to hit one of the every Child Matters outcome, ‘Enjoy and Achieve’. They with the support of staff placed a bid for the sum of £3000.00 to take a mix group of young people to experience London and what it has to offer.

The project was in conjunction with bringing young people from outside the community on board for gr eater cohesion. We involved four young people from outside the school community to join the group on this visit.

The young people experienced the following;

  • The tube exercise encouraged working together
  • Realising cooperation with each other is a skill in it self
  • Having to rely on each other for directions ironed out immature behaviour
  • Cooperation was needed by every member of the group
  • The group took responsibility in planning the day
  • Encouragement of communication and direction amongst each other
  • Working together outside your comfort zone
  • Communicating with strangers
  • Ensuring everyone was safe
  • Ensuring everyone was happy and no isolation took place
Everyone encouraged each other.

Volunteering Programme

Currently we are looking to explore opportunities to help our local community through offering a volunteering programme. We aim to offer individuals who are experiencing difficulties in finding employment due to the lack of experience they may have and a chance for them to get involved in a real life day to day running of a secondary education establishment.

Washwood H eath Technology College is offering an opportunity to get involved, easily and inexpensively, we offer an experience they will ben efit from in the longer term, that will also encourage them and support them in there new founded career. Staff are at hand at all times encouraging them to gain from a volunteering experience.

The project is designed to develop the volunteer and support the community. It raises commitment levels, motivation levels of individuals and at the same time strengthens team spirit.

We hope to increase volunteering opportunities in the near future at Washwood Heath Technology College.
